Step 01 . Sketching
First things first! A real educated designer starts a designing process on paper with pens. I mostly use color markers when I colorize my drawings as you all have seen in my doodle designs. This time, I wanted to go with my dry color pens. The character I created here is young warrior / adventurer equipped with meele weapons and also stylized with an old school appereance.
Step 02 . Vector Design
After I finished sketching, I scanned the original drawing for the next step. I worked on Adobe Illustrator to finish my character's digital appereance. As you realized there, I upgraded his sword and turned it into more fantastic looking weapon. I also improved his dagger as an elemental weapon. As it's seen over there, there are multiple choices of attacking styles for a possible action/adventure game scenerio.
Step 03 . Facial Expression
Emotion is important. In this step, I focused on the character's facial expression. So, I worked on his face in close up. I emphasized the expression of his eyes, a keen smile in his face which represents his overconfident ego as a fearless warrior.
Step 04 . Sword Attack
Finally, I created some action sprites. There you can see his sword swinging movements step by step.
Step 05 . Dagger Attack
As you can see in these sprites, I created a unique secret weapon for the character. His dagger can turn into some kind of spear, when he fastly swing the weapon forward it starts spinnig in the air for some serial low damage attack.
Finale
Here we go! Enjoy the action!
